A return to the holy Catholic Church?
As many of you may know I grew up as a Catholic. I also went to Catholic grade school and high school.
I also visited at seminary in 7th grade because I wanted to be a priest.
In other words I am very well aware of what the Catholic church teaches.
And I thank God for the education I received it prepared me for this.
I am amazed at how many people are currently embracing Catholics as brothers and sisters in Christ.
I am also amazed at how so many are embracing the ancient rituals of Catholic monks.
I also see what long term effect of what the practice of Lectio Divina and centering prayer can do to someones spirtual life.
I can see the longterm effect and fruit ofLectio Divina and Thomas Merton from my own mother who was a big fan of Thomas Merton in the 60's.
The bottom line on any religion is what gospel of salvation do they teach.
Many Catholics may state that they believe what you believe.
That is not however what the official church teaches.
The Magesterium the official teaching arm of the Catholic church teaches another gospel.
that's just a fact.
So it really doesn't matter what a Catholic thinks the Bible say but what the Magesterium and the pope thinks the Bible says.
We are no means to hate Catholics but instead share the true gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
However we would not want to adapt what ancient Catholic monks teach or disciplines they practiced no more than we would adapt practices of Mormons or , Buddhists.
Its a matter of historical fact that the monks liked the Hindu and Buddhist practices in spirituality.
Thomas Merton considered himself a Buddhist as well as a Christian.
You cant be both folks.
Here is a excellent essay on what Catholicism teaches about salvation from the fine folks at Let Us Reason.

All that you teach is Tim's Gospel of salvation as curiously interpreted from the words of some American Bible. If you were to repent of your intellecutal sin, you would share with your congregation all of the sola-scriptura assumptions on which you operate, and juxtapose them to the message of the Holy Catholic Church to which you are an apostate and a heretic, and allow them to make their own decision. As it is now, you are there god. It is you that obstucts them from the divine light as refracted in the Church He established. As it is now, you are the primary obstacle to their spiritual and intellecutal development. You are keeping them as spiritual infants tossed to and fro by waves of doctrine and the god of your own head. Personally, I do not know how people like you can sleep at night.
