Have The Following Gourds Infected Your Church?- Part Three

"I know a Gordo? Is that the same thing?"

"Will you steal, murder, commit adultery (Doyle Davidson), swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, and THEN come and stand before ME in THIS house which is called by MY name and say, "WE ARE DELIVERED TO DO ALL THESE ABOMINATIONS?"- Jeremiah 7:9-10. Those words are preceded by, "You trust in LYING words that cannot profit"- Jeremiah 7:8.

Some members of congregations know all about the poison in their pots because they bring it with them to church every Sunday. We know of a man who once gave his wife two black eyes before he left to go to choir practice. How can people live like hell six days a week and then go to church on Sunday to praise the Lord as if nothing had happened during that week? Listen up! Christianity is a seven day week! "Has My house become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, says the Lord"- Jeremiah 7:11.

How about pulpit poison? We've often heard the watered down gospel preached because hard preaching seems to scare away some folks so the pastors of these churches have dumbed down the gospel so that it doesn't offend anyone, save for the Lord. They have learned how to cultivate their lessons to their flock's ears. They preach itching ear messages (2 Timothy 4:3). Some pastors, like Robert Schuller, Bill Hybels, and Rick Warren went through their church neighborhoods to discern what the people "wanted" to hear instead of what they "needed" to hear. You won't hear convicting messages in the churches of any of those Purpose Driven pastors!

"They mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy"- 2 Chronicles 36:16. Too many church goers have tuned out the messages coming from Godly pastors and tuned in the ones that offer no gospel nourishment whatsoever. In effect, these people have heaped up for themselves teachers that have turned their ears away from the truth and have been turned aside to fables such as possibility thinking and purpose driven lives. More in the concluding part to this series.

Wow, it scares me to read this and see how divided we are in Christ's body. You tend to make these sweeping generalities that slam the more famous pastors of today as false teachers. I've heard Hybels teach and Willow Creek is not full of sermons without conviction or that lack truth. Yes, we do need to be careful of false teachers and discern what you hear, but where is your heart at? These convictions don't look as God driven and lean more to the side of anger against your brothers in Christ. Just because you disagree in your ministry style does not make either person wrong. Where is the unity of the Church that was experienced in Acts? It makes me think of the story in Mark 9:38-41 where the disciples come up and tell Jesus how they just stopped a man who was casting out demons. Jesus asks why, and they reply that the man was not in their group of disciples. Jesus says that they were in the wrong. If someone is not against us then they are with us. Are these men whose name you slander against you? Be careful in looking at church growth and new movement as corrupting the church. What if God is doing his redemptive work there? Where is the devil at work in the Church? I would say one of his favorite tactics is to divide healthy Christians into battles against eachother rather than battles against him.
