Emergent is nothing new

I remember about a year ago when I was still in Modesto Ca witnessing my first Emergent ritual.
It was a junior high youth event called Sanctum and was sponsored by The First Baptist Church in Modesto CA where Wade Estes is senior pastor.
I watched with concern as Emergent Church youth pastor Scott Ramsey lead young junior high children in repeating scripture (a mantra type ritual titled lectio divina)in order to somehow summon up God and have Him speak to you.
There were also prayer stations with candy bars and pictures of Jesus (Jesus is good so is candy).
As well as a cross made up of broken glass.
Number one is, we do not go look for supernatural experiences or encounters with God.
If God wants you to have asupernatural encounter with Him He will initiate the process-everytime.
No chanting scripture is going to prompt God to speak to you unless of course He tells you to "Knock off what you are doing!"
Supernatural experiences were always, 100 percent of the time initiated by God-not man.
Check your Bibles .
And does Jesus promote praying with vain repetitions as the pagans do?
Of course not.
Again check your Bibles.
This is old recyled new age and Catholic rituals that even the church at Rome banned at least three times before it made its way back and is now being blessed by the Catholic church.
How does this get into our churches?
Pastors not knowing what there youth leaders are doing.
Or even worse, knowing what they are doing and endorsing it.
How do I know about these rituals.
Very simple, my mom practiced these new age rituals(and still does) back in the 60's.
The books of Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating among others who many in the Emergent Church promote were in the library in my home.

And what they preached was practiced.
And whats worse is I see the long term fruit of these rituals and practices.
many of you cant possibly know because its new to you.
What it ends up is searching for the Divine in you.
Thats the fruit.
I have seen the long term fruit in my own family.
Thats why it makes me ill to see people like Steve Camp give these Emergent folk a voice.
What dialog do I want with Emergents?

Repent of the witchcraft you are playing with and embrace Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Thats the only dialog we need with the Emergent church.
I already know what the fruit looks like from this movement.
Peace
Tim
