Hot off the Press
January 17, 2007
As I prepare my response to Tim Wildmon, I spent some time in AFA's Resource Center, cut & pasted authors from the Master List, and found the below assortment of Contemplative, Cultic, Heretical, New Age, and Word-Faith authors.
The authors are there because AFA and their bookstore provider, Innovative, Inc. ( http://www.signaturewebsites.com/ss_icmabout.asp ) have a revolving door policy, in that they refuse to permanently block the authors. Yes, authors are removed from time-to-time, but they return and haunt the bookstore.
In his January 15 article, Wildmon wrote that, "The only people who come to our website looking for books on contemplative prayer or the emerging church--because AFA doesn’t promote these movements--are people who are trying to see if they can find some ‘dirt’ on AFA and then put out misleading reports on their websites" ( http://tinyurl.com/3djq4f ). As you review the Contemplative and Emerging authors in the below list, remember the words, "AFA doesn't promote these movements."
While Wildmon maintains that he and AFA do not support the Contemplative and Emerging Church movements, his own bookstore advertises and promotes both Contemplative and Emerging authors and books.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded (James 4:8).
And a double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways (James 1:7-8).
Frankly, Wildmon's response to his "Critics" is not only misleading, it isn't worth the webpage it's printed on!
