New Slick Rick article

Not to let Slick Rick Warren get a pass since I've been focused lately on the Emergent church.
Rick by the way is promoting Emergent and occult practices as well.
Apostates of a feather flock together I guess.
Here is a great article by Tim Challis
http://www.challies.com/archives/001468.php
A link to another article titled Pope Rick
http://www.challies.com/archives/000485.php

Its always amazed me that Rick Warren states"never criticize what God is blessing"
That would be the same as saying God blesses Ted Turner for his business success.
Opps well Ted is Ricks new pal helping to rid the world of all its problems.
Rick Warren had a great marketing plan, rallied people to carry it out and worked his plan.
God didn't bless this plan.
Peter Drucker did.
People need to figure out who Warren really worships.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving

I am thankful for my wife Donna and four kids Alan, Steven,Brittany, and Bethany.
I am also thankful for counting as friends all the watchman God has introduced me to.
Steve Muse and Ken Silva and their families for all their friendship and wisdom.
Bud Press and his family and wise words in our hourly phone conversations and teaching me how when I have to come out of the gate with my hair on fire at Mach 10.
Paul Proctor my dear brother in the Lord for writing articles no one else has the guts to write.
For Tim Challis and all he does for the Body of Christ through his website.
Ingrid Schulter and VCY America for getting truth out among the darkness.
For Deb and Dave Dombrowski for taking a stand and being good friends.
For Steve Camp and his friendship and his strong stance against what is loosly known as the Christian music industry.
A stance that basically cost Steve his career.
And for all my friends who don't conform to the world and reject the ways of man and satan in the church movements.

Most of all Im thankful that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and saved me.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Love

Ministries like mine and other discernment ministries often come under fire saying we don't love and are to harsh. I heard a lot of this after posting the Paul Proctor article about Kyle Lake.
Again though Emergents view love differently than the way the Bible views love.
Why because Emergent view love the way our culture in America views love.
Not the way God views love.
They confuse tolerance with love.
Lets look at scripture.
1 Corinthians 13:4 "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks not evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth."

No where does it state here that we have to tolerate sinful behavior. But of course Emergents would disagree with that.
I'm a parent of four children. Two boys two girls.
Sometimes I have to make some unpopular choices on what my kids watch, the clothes they wear, and the music they listen to.
But I do this because I love my kids.
I want to be friendly with them but not their friend.
Im their father.
That's my role and I take it very seriously.
And I know that God will judge me according to what I teach my kids.
I also take that very seriously.
Thats not to say I don't have great fun times with my kids because I do.
And Im tough on my kids because I love them and am accountable for how they are raised.
Now lets go back and compare what the fruit of the Emergent church is compared to what scripture states about love.
Verse 5 "does not behave rudely" I don't even need to expound on that one.

"does not seek its own" In the Emergent church its pretty much anything goes, they encourage to stay in the culture and be part of it. This is a immature self seeking attitude. I want my cake and eat it to. No matter if it makes a brother or sister stumble.

"is not provoked, thinks no evil"-Again I don't think I need to expound on that one.

does not rejoice in iniquity,
The Emergent church languishes in iniquity.

"but rejoices in the truth"
To the Emergent all truth is relative and they rejoice in all truth, whether its a false truth or not.

Love to the Emergent means tolerance.
And you can see where tolerance has gotten our society here in America.
Church kids going to night clubs on senior trips in foreign countries.
Runaway brides living with there future mates with a pastors blessing. If you say nothing about a sin its blessing it.
Teachers sleeping with children and getting away with it.
The f bomb being dropped in church.
Homosexuality is said to be ok even though 25 years ago psychology declared it a abnormal behavior.
The T.V. is filled with filth and sermons are preached around these shows to appease the god of culture.
And if you think it will end here you are perhaps being very naive.
We need to show the unsaved that being a Christian is not remaining who they are apart from Christ.
We need to get rid of the former self.
Being transformed by the renewing of our mind.
Crucify the sinful nature daily.

Do we still love these people?
Of course we do.
But it doesn't mean we put up with there junk and don't say anything about it.
If God had been a permissive parent He would have not had to have His Son Jesus come and die on the cross for our sins.
Everyone could have just got a free pass to heaven and Jesus would have not had to suffer on our behalf.
But Jesus did have to come and suffer on our behalf because God so loved the world.
Why not take up Gods example instead of the example of the permissive parents that have taken over our society.

Foul Mouth Emergent beware

Here is a link to a post on Ingrids site.
http://www.sliceoflaodicea.com/archives/2005/11/foul_mouthed_em.php
The conclusion I have came to even after some very nice emails from Dan Kimball.
Emergent fruit is not of God. The followers of Emergent speak for themselves.
Do I think that The Emergent church will stop of is just a fad.
Absolutely not.

The Bible speaks of all this in Matt 24:4
"And Jesus answered and said to them. :Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.

In Matt 7:15-20 it also states
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Therefore by their fruit you shall know them."
The Emergent fruit is on display at their various websites.
They rebelliously make it quite plain that they have unrepentant attitudes.

Now I know we are all a work in progress but the Emergents are very honest about uses of bad language and letting you know they love the culture of the unsaved and plan to stay and bask in it.

They have also redefined sin and made it relative to the culture of the unsaved.
However God's standards remain the same inspite of what culture dictates.
With the majority of Emergents I believe we are dealing with unsaved individuals who really believe they are saved.

So inspite of what certain Emergent leaders may state the bottom line is they are still teaching kids occult practices and they are reaping the fruit from teaching that their followers need to remain part of the culture to reach the culture.

When the Bibles teaches to come out from among the unclean thing.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. (KJV)

And as to the pagan rituals like Lectio, labyrinths, centering prayer Job 14:4 address this.
Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?

The fruit of the Emergent church speaks for itself.
Cann we stop this movement?
Absolutely not its all part of the end times.
All we can do is warn people.

You need to choose what side of the fence you will be on.

From the "Ain't it ironic" Department

1 Peter 1:13-16 "Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be bought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, be holy, for I am holy,"

Ani't it ironic that the new Emergent rebels will want to adapt the cool ritual prayer started by the Desert Fathers but not want to strive for the same holiness the monks wanted.
The monks went through great lengths to purge themselves from the world even whipping the sin out of their bodies. They went through great lengths to separate themselves from the world even in isolation.
But the Emergent rebels just want a quicky God type experience without even copying the other ways of the monks.
Now again I think the monks ritual prayer was wrong even occult but they were seeking to be holy. Just in the wrong ways.
The Emergent church wants a quick spiritual experience just for the thrills but yet want their MTV, coarse language, immodest dress and want to stay conformed to the culture created by the ungodly. Rather than seeking after holiness.
Which ain't it ironic was the way of the monks.
These kids are just seeking a occult experience instead of transforming their minds and seeking after the mind of Christ.
It truly is a Harry Potter generation.

Modesty in the church

This is a issue that many churches face these days. Or should I say don't face. I have never seen a time when women dressed so immodestly in the church. It's difficult sometimes if I am up playing to even glance out and not catch a eyeful. And Im talking about women who have been in the church a long time and their daughters. Funny thing most unbelievers new to the church dress up and cover up because they remember stories of how the church used to be. Sad. And whats even most more sad is the fact that pastors are aware of the problem and choose not to address this. I have never once heard a sermon on modesty preached once in the church I attend. And I have been there a couple years.
Are the pastors afraid that they will lose people and that will weaken attendance? Probably. Because the large dynasty's that have been built take lots of money to run and God forbid offending someone.
I think this is a cowardly approach and its spread all over the churches not just the one I attend.
Anyway here is the link to a good article I found on Ingrids site.
Pray for the pastors as well that they would get some back bone.

Modesty is not for the women only guys.

Coming to terms with terms

In the last article I posted it listed the term evangelical Christian. Well I don't know about you but these days I would not want to be lumped in this crowd. Plus believing what the Bible teaches should not lump you into this crowd.
You either believe in what the Bible teaches or you don't.
The Bible is very clear about Jesus being the only way to the Father.
So you are either saved-or not.
Any other belief other than Jesus as the way to live forever in heaven is just wrong.
The bottom line is the bottom line.
So when certain terms are used keep in mind the Bible is our only authority for truth.
And unless you have been saved through faith in Jesus you will not be able to be lead into all truth by The Holy Spirit.
So we need to come to terms with terms.

As for me call me what you will I just want to follow Jesus. And obey His commandments.

New article from Agape Press

A Strange Faith -- Are Church-Going Kids Christian?
Feature by Ed VitaglianoNovember 15, 2005
(AgapePress) - Our youth sit in church with us week after week. If we were asked, we would not only acknowledge that they are our political and cultural future, but that they are our religious future as well.
As pollster and researcher George Barna said in Real Teens: A Contemporary Snapshot of Youth Culture, "the substance of our culture hangs in the balance with the changing of the guard every couple of decades. Why? Because once people hit their mid-20s and beyond, they are who they are, and the degree of personal change they undergo in terms of character and values is minimal."
So, do our young people comprehend the rich tradition and foundational truths of the historic Christian faith? Have parents and church leaders done an adequate job in passing along the torch to the next generation?
Sadly -- and one might even say alarmingly, given the stakes -- the answer is an overwhelming and resounding no, according to recent studies.
First, the Good NewsUnderstanding the religious beliefs and practices of the nation's youth was the goal of Christian Smith and Melinda Lundquist Denton, two sociologists at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They examined data from the National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR), the largest and most detailed study of teenagers and religion ever undertaken. Both Smith and Denton were connected with that study: Smith as principal investigator of the NSYR, Denton as NSYR project manager.
The results of their research, which also included follow-up, face-to-face interviews with more than 250 of the youth who participated in the NSYR, were published in their book, Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers.
On the surface, Smith and Denton find much that seems very positive about the religious lives of American teens. While stereotypical teenagers are said to be "deeply restless, alienated, rebellious, and determined to find something that is radically different from the faith in which they were raised," Soul Searching added, "that impression is fundamentally wrong."
Instead, what Smith and Denton learned from their interviews was that "the vast majority of American teenagers are exceedingly conventional in their religious identity and practices .... When it comes to religion, they are quite happy to go along and get along." (Emphasis in original)
The Barna Research Group has found much of the same thing. "Most teenagers think of themselves as Christians," he said in Real Teens. "For more than a decade, regardless of their beliefs and church attendance, more than four out of five teens [86%] have been describing their faith affiliation as Christian."
Furthermore, despite the many worrisome trends over the last 30 or 40 years -- the stripping away of Christian symbols from public life, the apparent triumph of postmodern relativism, the surging interest in New Age religions -- Soul Searching noted that "U.S. youth are not flocking in droves to 'alternative' religions and spiritualities such as paganism and Wicca. Teenagers who are pagan or Wiccan represent fewer than one-third of 1% of U.S. teens."
In fact, with mostly Christianity in mind, Smith and Denton said the data demonstrated that "there are a significant number of adolescents in the United States for whom religion and spirituality are important if not defining features of their lives."
Positive Life OutcomesMoreover, that religious participation seems to be having a positive effect on youth. The researchers noted, "In general, for whatever reasons and whatever the causal directions, more highly religiously active teenagers are doing significantly better in life on a variety of important outcomes than are less religiously active teens."
As spelled out in Soul Searching, these "highly religiously active" teens were those who attended religious services weekly or more; said faith was very or extremely important in everyday life; felt very or extremely close to God; were currently involved in a religious youth group; prayed a few times a week or more; and read Scripture once or twice a month or more.
Data suggested that, compared to their less religiously active peers, more religiously active kids were less likely to engage in illegal substance abuse; use the Internet to view pornography; get lower school grades (i.e., usually Cs, Ds, and Fs); get suspended or expelled from school; be described by parents as fairly or very rebellious; lie to parents; or to have engaged in sex before marriage. Less religious involvement also correlated to a poorer self-image, greater sadness and feelings of depression.
Conversely, Smith and Denton said, the more religiously devoted teenagers were, the less likely they were to believe in relativistic morality, and the more likely they were to say they cared about the needs of the poor and the elderly, as well as "about equality between different racial groups."
While admitting that other factors may enter into this equation -- such as personality types -- the researchers stated: "Something about religion itself causes the good outcomes for youth. By general implication, teens who increase their religious involvement should, net of other factors, reduce their chances of experiencing negative and harmful outcomes," and vice versa.
Non-Christian Christian Teens? But if the religious lives of teens in the U.S. seem encouraging on the surface, there are troubling currents beneath the foamy whitecaps. As researchers probed deeper, what they found should shake churches to the core.
Barna, for example, after noting that 86 percent of teenagers claimed that they believed in God, asked, "But what is the nature of the God they embrace?"
A strange god indeed, as it turns out. In his book, Third Millennium Teens, Barna revealed this stunning fact: 63 percent of church-going, supposedly Christian teens said they believed "Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Jews and all other people pray to the same God, even though they use different names for their god."
In other critical areas of Christian doctrine -- e.g., the divinity of Christ, the resurrection, the reality of absolute truth -- the majority of church-going teenagers simply do not hold to views that are orthodox.
Smith and Denton said these statistics hold true, for the most part, even in conservative Protestant churches. There is "a large current-day gap between what most conservative Protestant pastors and leaders want their teens to assume and believe and what many conservative Protestant teens actually do assume and believe," Soul Searching said.
However, the sad fact is that very few of the nation's youth appear to be Bible-believing Christians.
To obtain a clearer picture of what youth actually believe, Barna used specific questions in his polling that were designed to allow a peek behind more generalized answers such as, "Yes, I believe in God." For example, in determining if a teenager is actually an evangelical Christian, Barna Research asked nine questions which focus on core evangelical beliefs, such as whether or not a person believes salvation is possible by grace alone.
Using this more probing method, Barna found that only 4 percent of U.S. teens can be considered evangelicals. More distressingly, that number is actually trending in the wrong direction. That 4 percent figure "is a far cry from the 10 percent measured in 1995," he said.
How could teenagers who go to church so often know so little -- or at least believe so little -- of the historic Christian faith? And whose fault is it?
Trouble Brewing for the FutureWhether we blame parents, church leaders, the kids themselves, the culture, or some combination, one thing seems clear: Apparently, many church-going teens are not being challenged by the preaching and teaching of the true Gospel. How else can one explain the overwhelming assumption among teens that they are Christian, when they clearly are not?
Soul Searching suggested: "It appears that these conservative Protestant youth have not been very successfully inducted into their tradition's distinctive commitment to Christian particularity, evangelism, the need to accept all that the Bible teaches, and serious church involvement."
It should not be surprising then, that when many of these church-going teens leave home, whatever facade of Christian commitment existed in high school crumbles and falls away.
For example, a 2004 study released by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) examined church attendance by college students. UCLA researchers found that in 2000, just over 80 percent of college freshman said that they had attended church services frequently or occasionally during their last years in high school. During their freshman year at college, that dropped to 52 percent. And by 2003, as those freshmen were going through their junior year, only 29 percent could make that same claim.
Of course, some of that could be explained by the busy pace that many students experience as they go off to college. But Barna said his research indicated that many young people just don't see church playing a major role in their lives.
"One unmistakable indication of the brewing trouble comes from the response to a question concerning how likely teens say they are to attend church once they are independent," he said in Real Teens. "After they graduate from high school or move away from home, just two out of five teens contend it is 'very likely' that they will attend a Christian church on a regular basis, and another two out of five say it is 'somewhat likely.'
"What makes these figures most alarming is that questions of this type typically produce an overestimate of future behavior," Barna continued. "If we apply a 'correction factor' to these responses, we would estimate that about one out of three teenagers is likely to actually attend a Christian church after they leave home."
Unless Christian leaders want to contemplate a future -- much like that unfolding in Europe -- in which their youth abandon Christianity in droves, there must be a brutally honest re-examination of how we do church. After all, our youth are not only our political and cultural future, but they are our religious future as well.
That's a fact we might want to consider now, while those same teens are sitting in church with us, week after week.

Conformed to culture instead of Christ

Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may 'prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

The Emergent church will not get a clue of what Gods will is because they are so tied down and into what the world has to offer. You cannot have your mind renewed while keeping it full of what the world has to offer or practicing occult rituals like centering prayer or lectio for a quick fix.
I have been snooping around Dan Kimballs site a bit to kind of see where the guys heads is at.
Dan states in his Appendix B: A personal plea to emerging leaders who are starting a new worship gathering in an existing church the following.
"I beg you to be engaged with the culture-absolutely. But do not become polluted by the culture. If you are a missionary, you need to be engaged with the culture and know the culture as any missionary should. But we must not allow culture to shape us to the point we are no longer walking in holiness." end quote
Well I guess that all sounds kinda good but lets look at a couple things.
We need to be engaged with the people within the culture-not the culture itself. Missionaries do not engage in pagan rituals with the natives but yet they minister and preach the gospel to the natives.
Lets talk about walking in holiness.
Dan promotes and has a link to buying the Violent Femmes latest CD.
I was still playing in the secular in the 80's so I know who the Violent Femmes are. And trust me folks these guys are not a Christian band and they don't pretend to be. Im sure that Dan knows who they are and yet he promotes this band on his website.
I clicked on the links and saw promotions for the Sex Pistols CD and Iggy Pop.
Well Dan do you think that Emergents will start diving on light bulbs and opening up their chests the way Iggy did back in the day?
And yes I think Brian Setzer is a very good guitar player but whats your point in promoting the world on your site?
Did Brian get saved? If he did thats great but Im not sure why all you Emergent folks want to keep a foot in the world and try to keep a foot in the church.
We are surrounded everywhere we go by secular music. Shopping malls, stores etc.. But whats the point of a guy promoting secular music as he is promoting worship music.
And this a main Emergent leader.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. ( James 1:8)
To be a friend of the world is to be a enemy of God.(read 1 John 2:15-16)
What do these verses say to you Emergent folk?
Here is a warning from The Lord Jesus to you Emergent folk from Amos 5:21-24
"I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred assemblies. Through you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings. Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments. But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream."

Gnosticism and the Emerging church

Again I want to state that the new Emerging Church movement is not really new at all but is Gnosticism plain and simple.
The Emerging church has bought back many ancient Gnostic rituals such as Lectio Divina, centering prayer, prayer stations, labyrinths etc..
This practices were rejected by biblical Christianity in the past, biblical Christians are rejecting them now.
And yes we are called heresy hunters a title I share with some of the early church fathers such as Tertullian, Hippolytus, and Ireneus who also spoke out against the Gnostics/Emergent church.
So here is a little history.
Again don't just take my word for it research what you are into and it's roots for yourselves.

Gnosticism is a blanket term for various mystical initiatory religions, sects and knowledge schools, which were most prominent in the first few centuries AD . It is also applied to modern revivals of these groups and, sometimes, by analogy to all religious movements based on secret knowledge gnosis, thus can lead to confusion.
The occult nature of gnostic teaching and the fact that much of the material relating to the schools comprising Gnosticism has traditionally come from critiques by orthodox Christians. Irenaeus described several different schools of 2nd century gnosticism in disparaging and often sarcastic detail while contrasting them with Christianity, to their detriment.
This state of affairs continued from antiquity through to modern times; in 1945 , there was a chance discovery of a cache of 4th-century gnostic texts in Nag Hammadi, Egypt. The texts, which had been sealed inside earthen jars, were discovered by a local man called Mohammed Ali. He at first was afraid to open the jars, as he believed they might contain an evil spirit , and that opening a jar might release it. When he overcame his fear and returned home with the texts his mother, possessed of a similar fear, burned several of the texts. The remaining manuscripts, now known as the Nag Hammadi library, allowed for the study of apparently Gnostic texts at first hand for the first time since the 4th century. The translation of the texts into English was completed in 1977; other modern languages followed.
At the same time, modern gnosticism has continued to develop, from origins in the Occultism of the 19th century. Thus "gnosticism" is also applied to many modern sects where only initiates have access to arcana.

Some theologians believe that the Carpocratian Gnostics were the target of Jude's attack about "...certain men" who " have secretly slipped in among you,". The book of Jude, Verses 4 to 19, deals mainly with these infiltrators.
4 For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Old and New Apostates 5 But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day;
7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
8 Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.
9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said,The Lord rebuke you
10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
Apostates Depraved and Doomed
12 These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
13 raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints,
15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.
16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.
19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

How do the Emergent crowd take rebuke as it is handed out?
I wonder how Paul and Jude would have spoken to them.

Simon Magus, an early Gnostic, may have been the Simon mentioned in Acts 8:9-24. Simon believed in Jesus and was baptized with a group of other believers. But none had received the Holy Spirit until Peter and John placed their hands on the new converts. Simon asked for the laying on of the apostles' hands and even offered money. Peter refused, because Simon's heart was not right with God.
Gnosticism consisted of many syncretistic belief systems which combined elements taken from Asian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek and Syrian pagan religions, from astrology, and from Judaism and Christianity. They constituted one of the three main branches of early Christianity: the other two being:
The remnants of the Jewish Christian sect which was founded by Jesus' disciples after his execution and centered in Jerusalem, and
The churches started by Paul, that were eventually to grow and develop into "mainline" Christianity by the end of the third century.
Many new emerging religions in the West have adopted some ancient Gnostic beliefs and practices. By far, the most successful of these is the LDS or Mormon church.

The Gnostic faith is undergoing a resurgence in the 21st century, primarily in Western countries with the new (yet old) Emergent church movement with Brian McLaren, Dan Kimball, Tony Jones, Sally Morganthaler, Leonard Sweet and a host of others.
The ultimate foundational elements of gnosticism are ore Christian because their roots are in Hinduism and Buddism. That said, the exact origins of Gnosticism are a subject of dispute amongst scholars: some think Gnosticism is fundamentally pagan in origin, but has adopted a Christian veneer. Most historians, however, agree that a significant influence in the mystical interpretations were influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism. In the end, it is difficult, perhaps impossible to confidently identify a clear origin for Gnosticism, due in part to its commonly syncretistic nature, and due also to the fluid (some might say "confused") relations between religious traditions in antiquity and, indeed, throughout history. Despite these uncertainties, some historical notions concerning gnosticism are widely accepted.
Many Gnostic sects were made up of Christians who embraced mystical theories concerning the nature of Jesus or theChrist which was increasingly at variance with the teachings of orthodox Christian faith as it developed. For example, Gnostics generally taught docetism, the belief that Jesus did not have a physical body, but rather his apparent physical body was an illusion, and hence his crucifixion was not bodily.
It seems clear that Gnosticism, at least in some of its theologically more developed formulations, was influenced by Platonism, Buddhism and Christianity.
Some historians accept that there is a significant amount of Buddhist/Hindu influence in Gnostic interpretations of the Bible. The standard tactic of Gnostic texts is to radically reinterpret a well-known text (usually Genesis and its related Biblical books) through the addition of an original prologue.
It is also my conclusion that The Message bible is actually a Gnostic writing based on these principles.
In the Valentinian Gnostic creation myth, as in the Classical Gnostic myth, the central transgression revolves around the figure of Sophia, who again seeks to surmount the rigid hierarchies of the spiritual universe to attain union with the unknowable One. In one account, she saw a distant light which she took to be the One, but which was in fact a mirror image of herself. Thus, in pursuing it she drifted even farther away from the pleroma.
Sophia's anguish and fear of losing her life, just as she lost the light of the One, caused confusion and longing. This dismay threatened the entire Pleroma, and, in an effort to prevent their spread, a portion of Sophia (called 'Achamoth', Hebrew for 'Wisdom') was split from the original by a divine figure called the Limit and thrust outside the Pleroma. This action should not be understood spatially, but epistemically, as being forced outside the divine presence. The sufferings of this secondary Wisdom caused the emergence of matter (Greek: hyle, ὕλη) and the soul (Greek: psyche, ψυχή) brought into existence through the four classical elements fire, water, earth, and air.

New Ager/Gnostic Laurie Beth Jones is now applying the 4 elements in a pagan application to teach your teens.

Some other modern Gnostics
Carl Jung and his associate G.R.S. Mead G. R. S. worked on trying to understand and explain the Gnostic faith from a psychological standpoint. Jung's "analytical psychology" in many ways schematically mirrors ancient Gnostic mythology, particularly those of Valentinus and the "classic" Gnostic doctrine described in most detail in the Apocryphon ("Secret Book") of John. Jung understands the emergance of the Demiurge out of the original, unified monadic source of the spiritual universe by gradual stages to be analogous to (and a symbolic depiction of) the emergence of the ego from the unconscious. However, it is uncertain as to whether the similarities between Jung's psychological teachings and those of the Gnostics are due to their sharing a "perennial philosophy", or whether Jung was unwittingly influenced by the Gnostics in the formation of his theories; Jung's own "Gnostic sermon", the Septem Sermones ad Mortuos, would tend to imply the latter. Uncertain too are Jung's claims that the Gnostics are aware of any psychological meaning behind their myths. On the other hand, what is known is that Jung and his ancient forebears disagreed on the ultimate goal of the individual: whereas the Gnostics clearly sought a return to a supreme, other-worldly Godhead, Jung would see this as analogous to a total identification with the unconscious, a dangerous psychological state.

Now check out this link to see the Jung/ Slick Rick Warren comparison.
http://www.sacredsandwich.com/warren_jung_chart.htm#warrenjung
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, founder of Theosophy enjoyed and wrote extensively on Gnostic ideas.
The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche appears to echo Gnostic ideas in his concept of the "Eternal return", in which a demon condemns human subjects to live out their lives in endless repeating cycles.
New Ager Leonard Sweet quotes Nietzsche in his Quantum Spirituality e book.
The philosopher Hans Jonas Hans wrote extensively on Gnosticism, interpreting it from an existentialist viewpoint.

The bottom line here folks is that Emergent church is experience driven as is paganism, witchcraft and Gnosticism.
I Timothy 4:1 warns us "Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons."
2 Timothy 3 5 also warns that in the last days people will be
"lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.

So if you are in a Emergent church turn away, repent ask God to forgive you and reject the Emergent church and its pagan and worldy ways.

God's word versus what the Emergent church teaches

First of all I want to state that what the Emerging church is doing is nothing new. Its what Paul and other church leaders faced at the very start of Christianity.
Its called Gnosticism.
I will go into Gnosticism in my next article in great detail.
The bottom line is The Emerging Church is Gnosticism repackaged plain and simple.

So what does the Gnostic/Emergent movement state and how does it compare to the word of God?

From Lighthouse Trails Research-

November 8, 2005 - Mark Oestreicher, president of Youth Specialties (an organization that officially partnered with mega Christian publisher Zondervan in 2003), has declared Christianity to be an eastern religion. Youth Specialties has been promoting eastern religion/New Age practices (yoga, labyrinths, contemplative prayer) into their national youth and pastor's conferences for some time now, but to our knowledge this is the first time the organization has publicly commented on this.
On October 27th, Mark Oestreicher (Marko) stated the following on his website in response to recent criticisms and complaints Youth Specialties has been receiving. We later learned that the same comments were being emailed to those who wrote to the organization with questions about their New Age leanings:On Eastern Religion and Christianity:"Christianity IS an eastern religion. It has all its roots in the East! It's a bit baffling to me that people lose sight of this, and insist on creating a false separation [see note below] between eastern religions and (apparently) western Christianity."

But the word of God states in Isaiah 2:5-6
"O House of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
For You have forsaken Your people, the House of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They are soothsayers like the Philistines."

God rejected His own people because they adapted eastern ways. Many times Gods people were rebuked and even punished for adapting the ways foreign to Gods word.

The Emergent church and its leaders use R rated movies and secular heroes to make biblical points. They also encourage being in the world.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:22 "Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
The Emergent Gnostics however encourage you to embrace youthful lust, cuss, drop the f bomb its ok. Its ok to have your cake and eat it to.
The Bible states
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. - 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
Now go and read the entire Chapter 8 of the book of Romans.

These are just a few comparisons between what biblical Christianity teaches and what the Gnostic/Emergent church teaches.
You will have to choose where you want to stand.

No Bad Language Kids

I recently posted on Dan Kimballs Vintage Faith website. I'm glad Im able to moderate my comments and I want to add that I won't tolerate anyone using bad language here. I'm really sorry I have to even say this. Some kid from Dan's website used the f word in a post replying to a topic here.
Whatever happened to becoming a new creature in Christ?
What ever happened to having the mind of Christ?
Have I ever used the f word?
You bet I have and Im not proud of it.
The thing is I don't use it anymore.
Its funny how these kids will not swear on Dans website but will on other folks blogs or websites.
So I guess I gotta post a warning to all you Emergent kids.
No bad language!
If you disagree with me that's fine.
You swear in a post and it doesn't get posted and your point doesn't get made.
Don't make me come to your house and wash out your mouth with soap!
Again I truly am sorry for the grief that Kyle Lake's family is going through.
You probably do not believe that. And its ok if you don't.
That doesn't change what really happened.
This is the fruit of the Emergent church.
Kids who are rebels who are taught occult techniques to get a quick what they think is a God thrill. And they are taught that they can be a Christian and keep the world to.
Well they are wrong.
And like I stated on Dans site.
Do you Emergents believe that all paths lead to God?

So again keep it clean or your comments don't get posted.
We are going to act like grown ups here.
If you want to cuss do it on Dans site.

Out Of Church Christians

Many people these days have left the official church buildings for one reason or another. I received this email this week and found it rather refreshing and thought I would share it with you.

RESPONSE to "OUT OF CHURCH and HURT"-by Arlean Kelley.I found April Staples essay interesting and wonder how many believers are in the same situation as she describes. But I don´t think this is the story of most non-organized-churchbelievers. Certainly not those that I know. Although most have seen inequities in church, as far as I know that is not their reasons for being out. Certainly they are not wounded people. I too am "out of church" for about 6 years now, not because of injuries. I have a wonderful sense of freedom. Until I relocated, I met with a group on Saturdays that started at 1:00 in the afternoon and continued to perhaps 9:00 P.M. We had our meeting, then supper together and fellowship as long as people wanted to stay.It has made for dear friendships--almost family. I also am in close fellowship with other believers - wherever I find them, in fact. The change in my "church" life has changed me. At one time I was so taken with the "doctrine" of my church. Had to straightenanyone out who was not equally enlightened. Today all I want to do is encourage and inspire people to seek God and His word and will for them. That is my focus and I am free to do it. I also find that when I leave people completely free, they are more responsive to what I have to share with them. There is no threat. It is difficult to do that in organized church. If you start to see scripture in a different way, you may well be asked to leave. It has happened to me in the past (I am 68 and have plenty of experience in church from childhood) and more recently to a beloved deacon in a church I had been a member of for years. All he did was take some scriptures to the pastor (not the congregation or people) that he was questioning and was told that there was not room in the church for the pastor and my deacon friend. His scriptures he was questioning had to do with eternal security. NOT allowed! Don´t even question that. So my deacon friend left to keep from splitting the church.Reminds me of the woman in the scripture that was willing to give her baby to the other woman rather than see it destroyed. In an organized denomination, you have to adhere to the status quo or you are perceived as a threat, especially if you are involved in leadership. And it is understandable. The structure makes the pastor´s entire life depend on no one rocking the boat. His income through which he supports his family, his career, his standing in the community, his family is also involved. It´s just too much pressure, I think. I see this not-so-new way of being out of the organized church asceasing to try to be someone´s "god" and directing them to a relationship with the true God. They no longer have to dot all my"i´s," as they say. I am able to give to immediate needs rather than to support paidworkers and buildings and building programs that go on when a church really should divide instead of building larger. But I am afraid that would break up someone´s dynasty.

Just a few points to consider.

Thanks for the information you send out.~Arlean Kelley.

EMERGENT CHURCH: IS THE BIBLE INERRANT?

Great new article by my friend Pastor Ken Silva.

If you are able I would encourage you to support Pastor Ken and his ministry.

What is the Emerging Church?

So what is this new apostasy we have been talking about lately from this blog?
It is actually what we would have called back in the day- New Agers.
I have taken all the material in this post from their own website.
Let it speak for it self but three points stuck on to me.
*Pluralism is ok. Most post-modernists believe that all paths lead to God. They aren't too sure of whom that God is, but He's there and anyone has access to Him.
(My comments-If you believe all paths lead to God then you don't truly believe in Jesus as the Christ and you are not really saved at all. Jesus is the only Way,the only Truth and the only Life. Know one comes to the Father unless it is through salvation through Jesus Christ. No exceptions period. Most post modernists don't know who Jesus is because they would rather talk about how moral The Matrix is rather than who Jesus is. Jesus is seldom mentioned in their sermons-if you can call them sermons.)
* Desire is to experience God. Experience is highly valued in the post-modern generation. People dont want to just know about God, they want to experience Him with all their senses.
(My comments- again I spent a lot of time playing in Word Faith churches that either promoted the false experience of being slain in the spirit and had many other goofy experiences in the name of the Holy Spirit. These days feelings are everything and if you don't feel God, He is probably not there. Which is false, because He will never leave or forsake those He has saved. And most of the feeling are either generated by demons or just the plain whoopie of running around a room. Feelings are fleeting. And what happens when you no longer feel something? This is a false and dangerous and immature notion That's not to say God does not touch us and we feel joy. The joy of the Lord is our strength.)
* Image is everything. Our worship facilities should clearly portray a sense of spirituality. They dont want a huge multi-purpose room that is also used for basketball and dinners. People in the post-modern generation, including nonreligious people, often wear crosses.
(My comments-Again with the visual. What kind of visual do you think Paul and Silas had in a jail cell? They were in stocks which means they couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom. Hmmn doesn't sound like much of a image to me. But you know what? Paul and Silas still sang and praised the Lord. Could superficialicial Emergent crowds praise the Lord under these circumstances? I doubt it.)
Here is a link to the rest of that article decide for yourselves.
http://www.indwes.edu/tuesday/emerging.worship.characteristics.htm

And here is a link to the main players in the movement.
http://www.indwes.edu/tuesday/emerging.worship.people.htm

Mark them and warn your pastors about them. They are teaching pagan and occult rituals like Lectio Divina, centering prayer and labyrinths.
And yes the Catholic monks practiced these rituals.
And yes the church (the church of Rome) dumped the practices themselves 3 times.
They always made a comeback. What does that tell you?
I watched a DVD by Sally Morgenthaler titled Digital Glass. It was as pagan and panthestic as it goes. Showing a bunch of natives, wild animals and nature. Not saying this is bad , but what is the point.
Plus they also used a technique called photo reading.
Do a search on photo reading for yourselves.
Again check this out for yourselves and then go check out what your youth is being taught.
The Emergent church crowd and all its leaders will lead some of the church into the New Age movement

New article by Berit Kjos

Great article for all parents to read on how students are being taught to rethink Gods word.
With all this stuff going on what ever happened to asking the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth?
Instead of relying on man to lead us into Gods truth?

Surprise me God?

I have just recently found out about the tragic death of a young man named Kyle Lake who leaves behind a wife and daughter.
Kyle was kicking off a program titled "Surprise Me God" this program is known as a experiment.
10 minutes after kicking off the program Kyle was electrocuted and killed when he started with a baptism. You can read the story here
http://www.surprisemegod.com/schedule_view.asp?ID=23
I want to be really careful here and we need to keep the mans wife and daughter in prayer. They witnessed the death and we need to hold everyone who attended this up in prayer. I've never witnessed anyone dying in person. Let alone someone who was very close to me.
What is this program that this young man was kicking off?
It's called Surprise Me God.
You can read more about it here.
http://www.surprisemegod.com/chapter.asp

Terry Esau is the author of this experiment and Terry refers to God as the "Surprise-Meister so right there goes my respect for what Terry thinks of God. To refer to God in such a shallow manner is a real slap in the face to Gods holiness.
Amongst the tragedy of this event I ask you to look at what happened.
The death took place 10 minutes after the introduction of the Surprise me God experiment.
The author of this experiment was present to see all that transpired as well.
I ask you to look at the timing and what happened.
And then you decide if God is blessing the Surprise Me God experiment.

Pray for the family of this young man and all who witnessed this terrible death. But also pray for wisdom and spiritual discernment for the Body of Christ.

The f bomb dropped in church-more junk Emerging from the church

You've got to read this to believe it.
Sorry to say I can see many youth pastors going "Right On This Rocks!
I hope Im wrong.

Maybe we should market millstones?

These are the days where everyone is trying to make a buck off Christianity.
Maybe we should start to market millstones with cute little fishies on them.

Matt 18:6 "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

The practice of Lectio Divina, centering prayer and contemplative prayer is being taught to our children.
Read this new article in Christianity Today
http://www.christianitytoday.com/le/2005/003/24.48.html
Remember when folk used to sacrifice their children to Moloch? Same thing here.
Am I over reacting?
No perhaps you are underreacting.
Lectio, contemplative and centering prayer is all the same deal. Don't let your youth pastor or any teacher try to persuade you different.
You need more information. Check it out for yourself. Don't just take my word for it. Test the spirits
The problem today is churches react after the fact when the ritual has already been taught.
Many churches have become firefighters instead of fire preventors.
When they should have obtained more information on what was being taught beforehand.
Besides even if you water down the practice you think that these kids won't go online and find out more information on what they are into?
If you think they will not you are probably being very naive.
Plus don't let the youth pastors and teachers play dumb either.
Many are operating on a lot more information than they will admit.
Why?
Because in a church that cares it will cost them their jobs and many youth pastors are well paid these days.

Again I want to quote Richard Foster who is into this occult ritual From his book "Prayer: Finding the Hearts true Home".
"At the outset I need to give a word of warning, a little like the warning labels on medicine bottles. Contemplative prayer is not for the novice. I do not say this for any other form of prayer. All are welcome, regardless of proficiency or expertise, to enter freely into adoration and meditation and intercession and a host of other approaches to prayer. But contemplation is different. While we are all equally precious in the eyes of God, we are not all equally ready to listen to "God's speech in his wondrous, terrible, gentle, loving, all embracing silence."
end quote.
And Foster also adds to say prayers of protection when you do this ritual.

Is this what we want a five year old child doing? Or any Christian of any age.

Let me add we should always ready to listen to God speak to us. And sometimes we need to be still and wait on the Lord. This does not mean however to practice a pagan ritual for a chance encounter with God.
All what we are teaching our children these days is based on a experience. I spent a lot of time in Word Faith churches and I can say with authority that if these folks were not having a experience they felt God was no longer there.
Is that what we want to teach children?
If you are not feeling something God is not there.
So when the feelings go away what then?
And I have not heard one word of discerning Gods voice from the enemies voice.
But of course demons won't pick on kids or try to speak to kids as Jesus?
Yea right.

These practices( Lectio etc..) are what they are don't buy into the lie that what is being taught is some sort of different or cleaned up version.
Bad root-bad tree.

Entering into the silence, emptying your mind all this comes from the roots which are in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, not Christian. That's where the monks got this from-the Alexandrian Gnostics who got it from the Hindus and Buddhists.
This practice went away after the Desert fathers around 325 AD and didn't make a comeback (because it was rejected) until the 15 century and St Benedict once again it was rejected and didn't make a comeback until the 60's with Thomas Merton and Thomas Keating.
Do a web search yourself and see if Im making this stuff up.

You need to see for yourself what is being taught to your children and you need have seen it yesterday.
Many of our churches have gotten so big that spiritual discernment has taken a back seat to keeping the numbers up.
Even if your church may object to the Emergent movement and occult practices Like Lectio it may slip them by because they are simply to busy to check out whats being taught.

You need to stay on your toes!
Teaching your kids to sit still and pray to God or read their Bibles is a wonderful thing.
We also need to do our jobs as parents and be there to answer any questions for them.
And for crying out loud don't buy your kids The Message Bible.
Buy a decent translation that doesnt pervert the word of God. Stay away from paraphrases.

Meanwhile how much do you think we could sell millstones on eBay?

New article from Herescope-Marketing Emergent

Great new article on the marketing of the Emergent church.
Good reading for any Christian most of all pastors with youth groups
http://herescope.blogspot.com/2005/11/marketing-emergent.html

Article by David Wilkerson.

It is HARVEST TIME"-by David Wilkerson."When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest" (Matthew 9:36-38).Jesus declared, "The fields are ripe, and the harvest plentiful. It's time to begin reaping." At that moment, the great, final spiritual harvest began. It started as a harvest among the Jews and Gentiles of Jesus' generation. And this same harvest is going to last until Christ returns. As I read this passage, I wonder: what did Jesus see in his time that caused him to say, "The harvest isready, so now is the time to reap"? Did he see a spiritual awakening in Israel? Was there revival in the synagogues? Were priests turning back to God? Were scribes and Pharisees being convicted? What evidence was there that the harvest was ripe? The Gospels don't reveal much evidence of any spiritual move toward God. If anything, they show the opposite. Jesus was mocked in the synagogues. The nation's spiritual leaders rejected him, questioning his integrity and divinity. One religious crowd tried to throw him over a cliff. And Christ himself upbraided Israel's cities for not repenting at his message: "Woe, Chorazin! Woe,Bethsaida! Woe, Tyre and Sidon! Woe, Capernaum!" As for the multitudes, they were embroiled in chaotic despair. Scripture tells us, "When he saw them, they were distressed and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd." Here was a society that was fearful, stressed out, depressed. The people ran about wildly, likescattered sheep, looking for help anywhere they could find it. Yet it was at this very point of great distress that Christ declared, "The fields are ripe, and the harvest is plentiful."Do you think Jesus' words about a ripe harvest apply today? Where do we see evidence that fields are white and ready to be reaped? Are nations repenting? Is there a great stirring in our society? And is the organized church waking up? Are religious leaders hungering for revival, seeking Christ anew? Is there a cry for holiness in this generation? With few exceptions, I don't see any such things happening. Yet, none of these is what moved Jesus in his time. Rather, he was moved by the sad conditions he saw on every side. Everywhere he looked, people were overwhelmed with distress. In fact, as Christ gazed out over Jerusalem, he wept. His tears were over the hardness and spiritual blindness he saw. Here were a people headed for judgment, with no peace, only fear and depression. And he prophesied over this scene, "Your house will become desolate." Jesus actually gives us a picture of what the last days would look like. Now, this period began at his ascension, and it will end only when he comes again. We're getting very close to that point now. And Jesus described it to his disciples when they asked him what signs to look for. They wanted to know the condition of things as the very last days were approaching. Christ answered by speaking of famines, earthquakes, tribulations, nations divided. False prophets and false christs would deceive many and lead multitudes astray. Believers would be hated for even mentioning Christ's name. And the love of many would grow cold, with some falling away because of the bold increase of sin and lawlessness. "Upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken" (Luke 21:25-26). In short, Jesus is describing here the most anxious, depressed, stressed-out generation of all time. So, are his prophecies happening even now, before our eyes? Think about it: this generation is full of anxiety and worry. Multitudes are fearful as they watch incredible disasters unfold: hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, mudslides, tornados. Entire nations tremble with fear over the threat of terrorism. And heart failure is the number-one killer in the world today. False religions, false prophets, false christs are leading many astray. Millions are turning to Islam, with nation after nation infiltrated by Islamists. You would have to be in total denial if you didn't see that everything that can be shaken right now is being shaken. In the midst of all this upheaval and turmoil, I hear Jesus' words: "The fields are white. The harvest is plentiful." I'm convinced he's telling his church, "People are ready to hear. This is the time to believe for a harvest. Now is the time for you to start reaping."Christ is the Lord of the harvest. And if he declares the harvest is ready, we must believe it. It doesn't matter how wicked this generation becomes. It doesn't matter how powerful Satan seems to have grown. Our Lord is saying to us, "Stop focusing on the difficulties around you. Instead, raise up your eyes. It's time for you to see that the harvest is ready."Jesus understood man's heart, knowing we forget God in times of prosperity. Christ knew that in times of distress and calamity, people are forced to face eternity. Suffering, fear and hard times ripen people for hearing and receiving the gospel. Consider the context of his words: "When he saw the multitudes.because they fainted.then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous" (Matthew 9:36-37). This truth has been demonstratedthroughout the history of God's people. Moses reprimanded his generation, saying, "God led you. He increased your numbers. And he greatly blessed you, giving you green fields, honey, butter, milk, sheep, oil, fruit. But you grew rich and rebelled. You lightly esteemed the Rock of your salvation, and forsook him." "But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxed fat.thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation" (Deuteronomy 32:15).Scripture tells us Israel was brought low after this. Yet, in their distress, they called upon the Lord, and he delivered them: "Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses" (Psalm 107:6). Consider also David's testimony: "The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon theLord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears" (Psalm 18:4-6). Trouble, distress and perplexity have always birthed a cry for help. This has been the pattern throughout the centuries. You remember what happened after the twin towers in New York fell: churches were packed. Prayer meetings were held in Yankee Stadium. Congressional leaders gathered on the steps of the Capitol inWashington, praying and singing, "God Bless America."For a season, God was the talk of the nation. Fear and distress had made people think about finding truth. And that sums up the law of the harvest: THE DARKER THE DAYS, THE WHITER THE HARVEST. In Indonesia and Sri Lanka, radical Islamists had refused to allow any outsiders into their territory. But after thetsunami disaster, many opened their doors to Christian relief workers. Why? God saw fields that were white and ready to be harvested. The fact is, no country is closed to Christ. And no people are unreachable. No religious power on earth can stop the harvest. That's why Jesus tells us not to fear, even though mountains may fall into the sea.Think about the cataclysmic events of recent world history. The Communists in Russia thought they had rid their country of God. But Jesus had said to them, "All you did was help the harvest." Christ is alive and well in Russia today. China also tried to outlaw God, only to ripen a harvest of millions of believers. Recently, the Ukraine fell out of corrupt hands, and is being led by a man who speaks of Christ. The New York Times now calls Belarus the mostCommunist-dominated nation on earth, yet Christians there are praying their country is next. God has seen all these fields as ready for reaping! This same principle was true throughout Israel's history. When Moses told Pharaoh, "Let my people go," it was because God had announced harvest time. The moment had come for Israel's deliverance from captivity. But Pharaoh responded, "Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go" (Exodus 5:2). Pharaoh represents Satan's demonic system, including false religions and oppression that hold people under bondage. Before Israel could be delivered, the powers of darkness had to be shaken. So God struck Egypt with nine natural calamities. Yet those nine disasters only hardened Pharaoh's heart. Finally, there came a calamity so devastating, everyone in Egypt - from the rulers down to ordinary citizens - knew this wasn't just nature out of control. It was Godspeaking. The Lord had sent an angel of death. And in one night, the eldest son in every Egyptian family died. Pharaoh's son was included among them. The very next day, Israel paraded out of Egypt. Here was the harvest that came just before judgment.Centuries later, when Jesus announced the ripe harvest in Jerusalem, he knew judgment was about to come. Years hence, Titus and his army would invade the city, and 1.2 million people would be killed. Many would be hung on crosses, and the city itself would be burned to the ground. This is why Jesus warned hisgeneration, "You say there are four months before harvest. But I'm telling you, the harvest has to begin now. You have to be about the will of God, because the greatest calamity is at your door. I'm commissioning you now to finish my work. The time to start reaping is today."How did Jesus describe the calamity that was to come? "Then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be" (Matthew 24:21). Yet, before that calamity came, it would be time for the harvest. The concept of "harvest" was central to the church-growthmovement of the 1980s. More than two decades ago, church-growth experts began focusing on new methods to bring in the harvest. They declared, "The church is no longer relevant to modern society. It's too traditional, too out of touch, and needs to be updated. We have to become more contemporary. We can no longer afford to think in small terms." So the 1980s were proclaimed to be "The Decade of Harvest." And out of this mentality was born the "seeker sensitive," mega-church movement. Almost overnight, huge churches began to spring up all over the country. Many such churches suddenly had congregations numbering in the thousands or ten thousands. Some built huge campuses resembling shopping malls, including restaurants and other conveniences. What was called "narrow thinking" was now replaced by corporate thinking. The people's morals were no longer to be challenged. Instead, the church was to become "need-centered," ministering to people's needs as they stated them on surveys. Worship services incorporated the latest technologies, "contemporizing"the music and offering theatrical productions. Pastors illustrated their sermons with film clips from the most recent movies, some of them R-rated. It looked as if the great harvest was underway. But the "Decade of Harvest" proved to be building on the wrong foundation. A pastor named William Chadwick had led a church that thrived on these principles. But over time, he grew convicted about being so numbers-focused. He authored a book titled Stealing Sheep, in which he cites some alarming statistics. The most remarkable figure was that, in ten years' time, there was no appreciable growth among evangelical churches. Instead, mega-churches were made up mostly of transfers from smaller churches. People came for the exciting new contemporary worship and the programs catering to baby boomers. Many of these"switchers" were Pentecostals. Worse, the mega-church movement had an awful effect on smaller churches. These didn't have the resources to compete with huge churches, which offered all kinds of bells and whistles with their need-centered programs. Slowly, smaller churches' numbers dwindled, and many ended up shutting their doors. A recent study by the respected Barna Research Group shows that the church isn't just stagnating, it's growing worse. One alarming fact is that fewer baby boomers are attending church than before. Simply put, the church-growth movement has ended up going backward instead of forward. Finally, there is one statistic that startles me more than any other. That is, only a minute number of Christians has ever won a soul to Christ. This brings Jesus' words up to date that "the laborers are few."In every city where I travel nowadays, pastors ask me how to build a strong, growing church. As I look around their city, I see poor neighborhoods, teeming with downtrodden people bound by sin. I know that God has promised to empower us as ministers, if we would only go into these nearby harvest fields to reap the souls. You can build a great church with those poor and weak who are being set free from Satan's bondage. Years ago, I found the harvest to be ripe in the ghetto. It happened when I went to the neighborhoods where gang leaders, drug addicts, poor widows, alcoholics and prostitutes lived. Now, many of the most powerful soul-winners I know are former gang members like Nicky Cruz. All over the world, they're winning multitudes to Christ.Imagine a scenario on the last day Jesus spent on the earth.Suppose that just before Jesus ascended - as he envisions the church and the harvest prior to his return - he foresees a falling away. His soul is grieved, because he sees rampant backsliding. Instead of reaping a white harvest, his people spend their time and energy seeking worldly success and material things. So Jesus says to the Father, "They won't get the harvest in. All the white fields lay dormant. I'm going to send a host of angels to do the reaping." The Father agrees, and suddenly thousands of celestial beings appear on the earth, glowing with supernatural radiance. What a sight this would be: otherworldly beings, clothed in glory, speaking in churches and in public. You see them interviewed by newspaper reporters, on the radio and on TV. They talk of theCross, the Resurrection, the Ascension, Christ's love, and a final judgment to come. And they speak with such eloquence and conviction that everyone is enthralled. They're like so many Jonahs, wooing and warning the world. Now suppose that after a short time, these same radiant angels become enthralled with the world around them. They're taken in by fine foods, material goods, wealth and security. And soon they start striving for success, fame and fortune. Before long, they become jealous of each other, showing anger, pride, envy and covetousness. In other words, they become just like the church today! I ask you, how much influence would they have on theworld? How could they expect to bring in a harvest, being so caught up in worldliness? Their testimony would be discounted. And they would be drained of all spiritual power, going about discouraged, fearful and doubting. Tell me, why would anyone want my gospel, if they saw me in this kind of state, stressed out and joyless? Why would they believe my message, "Jesus is sufficient, my everything, my constant supply," if I'm always fearful and worried, with no peace? No one would listen to a word I said. Instead, they'd wonder, "What difference is your Christ? He doesn't seem to be much of a physician, if you're always in this kind of condition." Beloved, our countenance counts. Listen to what Christ says of his bride, in the Song of Solomon: "O my dove.let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenanceis comely" (Song of Solomon 2:14). Christ is saying to us, in essence, "I want to see your smile." Does that describe your countenance? There is no supposing why we don't experience a great harvest of souls. Jesus made it plain: "The harvest is ripe, but the laborers are few." Yet, why are there so few laborers?Churches today are packed with believers who claim Christ is their very life. Millions of dollars are spent on building worship centers everywhere. The truth is, if we're not capable of reaping souls - if our lives don't reflect the transforming power of the gospel we preach - then we have discounted ourselves as laborers. Our walk with Christ should offer proof to the world that God's promises are true. As laborers, we are the harvest instruments in the Lord's hand. In the days of Christ, such an instrument was a scythe, a long, curved, single-edged blade with a long handle. It was forged by ablacksmith, who put it into a fire, then placed it on an anvil, where he pounded and bent it into shape. Then the whole process was repeated again and again, until the cutting edge was filed with a rough-edged surface. The parallel is clear: God is forging laborers. He isn't just pounding away at sin. And this forging process explains why the laborers are few. The majority of churchgoers are like the thousands who volunteered to go with Gideon in the Old Testament. God saw fear in many of them, knowing they wouldn't endure the fire, the pounding, the hard times. And out of the thousands who followed Gideon, only three hundred were chosen. The same thing happens today. Those who are truly called to harvest are called to endure the refining, shaping fires and the continual hammering. Yet not many do.The disciples were empowered by God in their mission. Where did the disciples start their ministry? According to this passage, Jesus sent them to the distressed, the poor, those who were bowed down with sin, bondages and life-controlling habits. I think of the Teen Challenge drug and alcohol rehabilitation ministry, with its 500 centers worldwide. And I think of scores of other reapers who have gone to other countries and seen miracles of salvation as they've ministered to the neediest, poorest, most devil-boundpeople. They're starting to reap exactly where Jesus started his harvest: among the lost sheep, the captives, the brokenhearted, the prisoners, the lepers, the blind, the poor, those who mourn, those with a spirit of heaviness, those who are distressed and disconcerted.Consider Paul's words: "Ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: but God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not.that no flesh should glory in his presence" (1 Corinthians 1:26-29).Dear saint, Jesus knew what we were going to face in these last days: a generation steeped in sin far more than any other.stress and loneliness such as has never been experienced by man.financial disasters, rampant divorce, militant homosexuality, immorality that would bring a blush to even the worst sinners just thirty years ago. This is why Christ seeks laborers who have submitted to the fires and forgings. He wants a people who'll stand before the world and proclaim: "God is with me! Satan can't stop me. Just look at my life. I've been through fire after fire, pounded again and again. But I've come through it all more than a conqueror through Christ, who lives in me. What I have preached hasworked for me. I am living proof Jesus is all-sufficient!"~David Wilkerson.

New Lighthouse Trails Article

Here is a great article from the folks at Lighthouse Trail Research site. We have seen Zondervan and Youth Specialties sliding down that slippery slope for awhile now promoting occult New Age practices like Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer.
That slide is picking up speed.
Keep in mind these are the folks who target our youth and the youth pastors that lead our children.
Here is the article

http://www.lighthousetrailsresearch.com/youthspecialties.htm

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine Bud taught me the three R's.
Not reading, writing, and arithmetic but retract, repent and renounce.
Youth specialties needs to do this.
They need to stop promoting the occult practice of Lectio Divina, centering prayer and contemplative prayer and make this right with all the folks on their mailing list.
Then they need to gather up all the materials they have on this and read Acts 19:19 and act upon it. Refunding everyone's money who bought into this lie.
I have heard the old statement "Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater."
If your baby was in a bath with a snake how fast would you pull that baby out?
And never put the child in that tub again.
I'm not promoting having stinky babies.
But babies that are washed in the pure Word and biblical standards of the Bible.
Again don't just take my word for it tests the spirits for yourself and see if they are from God.
Do research on what is being taught to your kids and for crying out loud go to the events your kids are going to at church.
Don't just drop them off.
And if your kids are being taught how to read and study the Bible and how to pray according to the standards of scripture go give your youth pastor a big hug and mess up their spiky hair.
Be an encourager but also rebuke in love when the time comes for that.
But don't just take anything for granted these days.
Young children are very impressionable and things that are taught to them will stick with them sometimes for life.
Make sure what is taught to them is of God.

Does the Bible Really Teach it is the Inerrant Word of God

While the Emergent church tries to tear at and raise doubt in our children about Gods word and folks like Tony Jones promote reading The Message bible (what Eugene Peterson thinks Gods word says-not what God actually says).

The New Age Pillars of the Emergent Church

Herescope has a great article about how the New Age Movement has birthed the Emergent Church with guys like Tony Jones and Leonard Sweet and it ties in with Peter Drucker as well.
A great article. We need to truly be prepared and watch what our youth are being exposed to. Tony Jones is very popular with the youth and the guy is knee deep in bringing the New Age Movement into the church. Leonard Sweet is directly tied to Peter Drucker Rick Warrens mentor. We really need to be careful and start connecting the dots here.

New article by Steve Camp

I had the wonderful priviledge of working with Steve Camp a little over a year ago. It wasn't about working with another famous guy but Steve was real in all ways. Steve also worked for free for me because the CD was for the military and Steve stated he doesn't charge for ministry. We paid for Steves flight and the rest was done out of Steves love for what we were doing to get free Christian music for the troops.
Besides the fact that Steve has a load of God given talent many folks don't know how Steve is perceived. Most of all from the majority of the mob in God's Holy City of Nashville.
Steve paid a big price for telling the truth.
What price are you willing to pay for proclaiming the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
Here is the article I lifted from Steves blog "Camp on This."
Its a great read-

The following is a Steve Camp article from Campis blogsite "Camp On This"

Theologues, blogging Biblicists, conservative orthodox historical doctrinists, and all who love truth, justice and the biblical way. As they say from the beautiful land of New Zealand... good day, mate. The ministry down-under has been so wonderful here that I will be giving a full report by the first of next week when I complete my time of ministry here this Sunday. All of your prayers have been so appreciated. Now to the issue at hand.Reformation Week - Message Three, PART ONEMany have been emailing me these past few weeks wondering when I am going to post the 107 THESES, I wrote eight years ago, on this blog. I am here to serve; so due to popular demand, here they are. I have made one slight update on the subtitle above: this is no longer a call to reformation for Christian music, but for Christian ministry. It is no secret, the current state of evangelicalism moving away from biblical truth is eroding dramatically almost monthly with no corrective in sight. There needs to be a clarion call for action in evangelicalism today that I now humbly reoffer The 107 THESES as one such call backed with the hard sacrifice of biblical choices that such a call demands.A Time for CourageNo one today, and I mean no one of any evangelical note of leadership, is willing to risk their current book deals, contracts, public standing in the marketplace, or radio positioning to confront the theological/biblical corrosion of modern day evangelicalism head on. Let me explain: it is one thing to voice disgust and disagreement over theological error today by teaching against Open Theism, the New Perspective of Paul, Pragmatism, Sabellianism, Political Activism, etc., and that is a necessary and appreciated and part of sound ministry to confront unsound doctrine with the Word of God (Titus 1:9). But, it is quite another thing, and just as important, to also say to your publisher, radio networks, music company, etc. that you will no longer continue to publish your books and/or broadcast your radio programs with companies that continually further those same unsound doctrines and that have been bought out by multinational conglomerates which currently are under secular ownership (i.e., Zondervan, Thomas Nelson, Word, etc.) violating 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1 by being unequally yoked in a spiritual ministry or enterprise with nonbelievers. And then withdraw from any further relationship with those companies ceasing to profit from them financially because of those right and true biblical convictions. That takes courage of monumental proportions and no one has taken it today in the pastoral, radio teaching, publishing arena. Why? Why would men of God who write, preach and teach sound doctrine and correct theology through books, radio, etc. not want to leave the very entity that continues to fuel the marketplace and church with material that is against the very faith and Lord they love so much? Two things: it means the loss of significant platforms that build and sustain one's audience; and, the financial capital that comes from that expanding audience. The larger the audience - the greater the remuneration. It’s that simple. If a Christian owned, nonprofit publishing company had as much marketing muscle in the marketplace as Word, Zondervan or Thomas Nelson, then I am convinced, that most Christian authors and radio bible teachers would move their alliances without delay. But because there isn’t, they will spin the reasons and justify the methods to stay involved with the current status quo and do I call, "the Nashville two-step", in being a part of the very system that continues to propagate the damaging errant teaching, heresy and blasphemous works against the truth of Scripture, the character of God and the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ they teach against. This is trying to mop up the floor while keeping the faucet running. Impossible. You cannot pick up a tub while standing in it. You must first step outside of it in order to change it. Until evangelical leaders are willing to put their ministries where their teaching is, then the current system will continue to win every time; dominating the marketplace and the church with skewed, errant and heretical material. Strong words against error are not enough; action is now required.Marketplace and Money: The Allure of Christian Radio & PublishingYou might disagree with me on this--that's OK. But I have earned the right, in today’s world of public media driven ministry, to say it. As most of you know, I walked away many years ago from a very successful music ministry after releasing 16 CD’s at that time when Christian music companies were selling out by the droves and being bought up at wholesale rates by the world for the sake of two things: a greater marketplace and more money. After entreating the wisdom, counsel and advice from several key evangelical leaders and pastors, all advised me to leave the CCM industry without hesitation because I would be unequally yoked with an unbelieving world in my service to the Lord and would therefore be forfeiting the blessing and favor of God in my own life and ministry to remain in partnership with them. After careful study of God’s Word and a season of fasting and prayer, I did leave the CCM industry and though its been hard and the cost personally profound, I thank the Lord for it everyday and would never go back for anything in the world. IOW: no regrets... not one. The ironic thing is, that some of the same ones who counseled me back then to leave the industry of CCM music are now some of the same ones who are unequally yoked themselves in the publishing and radio world in their public ministries. The same ones who championed my effort through THE 107 THESES back then are now some of the same ones today saying to me, "who made you the watchdog for Christianity?" Funny... isn't it? One might ask, why doesn’t the same standard apply to them in the publishing/radio world as it did to me in the CCM world? Good question. I am still waiting for the answer. The bastardization of biblical truth is so rampant today that it must be silenced – not just negotiated with. But current evangelical leaders are just as much politicians as they are authors, and until they are motivated by conviction to act rather than situational ethics, this trend will continue. Here is an example: in light of the recent "Align" b-zine and many other skewed and offensive tomes that Thomas Nelson Publishers have continued to churn out by the dozens (i.e., remember "Good Morning Holy Spirit" by Benny Hinn?) why would very biblical, orthodox authors/pastors continue to publish their books, tapes, CD's, Bibles and other Christian literature with them, knowing full well of what they stand for? There are only two reasons: distribution and money. There are no other justifiers in that world. Who can get your product to largest audience, which in turn generates the most money. Though they are some good theological/biblical books that TNP have released, in the world of publishing, one book from one author feeds another’s opportunity from another author. Truth is not the reason for releasing another book today, just profits. How I pray for some no profit, prophets to come back to Christian publishing once again.Someone had jokingly posted that Steve Hayes would be proud of me for taking a "political" stand against this. Though I don't support Steve in his eschatological theonomist views, I would gladly welcome him to also call evangelical leaders to purity in whom they partner with, not just what they say. I would be humbled to have his wisdom in this fight for truth. The methods, the messengers and the motives in ministry are just as important as the message; and they are all inseparable.
